Abstract

This report was studies 15 individuals to determine whether changes in sympathetic tone as reflected in skin temperature, occurred in response to needling on unilateral upper or lower limb.
Needling was carried out for 15 minutes and skin temperature were measured from the forearm and both hand, both lower leg and feet of stimulated and non-stimulated contralateral extremity, before, during and after stimulation(needling).
A symmetric warming(sympathetic inhibition) and cooling (sympathetic activation) effect were observed in above mentioned same area, under needling on unilateral upper or lower limb.
We concluded that the sympathetic effect may be functionally correlated with central and perpheral acupuncture mechanism.
